DDT: Fake Headlines

Doctoring photos is a nasty #DirtyDisinfoTrick.
Disinfo spreaders will sometimes take a screenshot of an article and change the content. The article will appear to be from a reputable source and will often have the byline of a real journalist.
Another example of this is when they doctor the content of a tweet from a well-known celebrity or public figure. Creating a fake tweet is even easier than photoshopping an article thanks to the tons of fake tweet generators on the internet.
So how can I spot it?
When someone is intentionally sharing a fake article or tweet there won’t be a link back to the article because it doesn’t exist. Also you can easily check a celebrity’s Twitter profile to see if they actually posted the tweet being shared.
What do I do if I see it?
Make sure you #TakeASecToCheck before you share anything on social media! If what you’re seeing turns out to be fake then make sure you report it.
