3 laws proposed by Congress to reduce mass shootings
Age 21 Act
The Age 21 Act would raise the minimum age to buy an assault rifle or high capacity magazine from 18 to 21.
The age to purchase a handgun is already 21, so passing this act would bring this up to parity.
Extreme Risk Protection Act of 2019 (ERPA)
The Extreme Risk Protection Act of 2019 allows family members to request the state block someone from purchasing firearms because they’re deemed a threat by the court and loved ones.
Families can also request law enforcement temporarily take weapons away from dangerous individuals who present a threat to themselves or others.
Due process protections would ensure confidentiality and the opportunity to be heard by a judge.
Assault Weapons Ban
This would ban the sale of assault style weapons, large capacity magazines, and other attachments.
It would also implement a buy back program.
