What is the “blue shift”?

Experts expect a majority of the mail-in ballots will come from Democratic voters this election. These may take days to come in and will likely create a “blue shift” in vote totals towards Democratic candidates following Election Day.
When will we get the final election results?

Counting all the mail-in, provisional, and military ballots takes time. Federal law say that states have until December 8th to certify their election results.
