Why should I vote if I don't live in a swing state?

Since 2000, it’s been clear that no election can be taken for granted. Very few states are reliably blue or red anymore, and motivated voters can make all the difference in local and national election results.

In 2000, for example, 537 votes in Florida won the election for Bush. In 2016, a total of 78,000 votes across Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin — less than 1% of votes in each of those states — made Trump president.
