Rumor: Is voter intimidation legal? Reality: No. Voter intimidation - in any form - is illegal.

You can stop voter intimidation.

If it happens to you or you see it happening, take the following steps:

Document everything you can, include date, time and location, and report it to election officials. Photos and videos are very helpful.

  • Report it to your county Board of Elections and the county District Attorney.
  • Call the Election Protection Hotline:

    • Spanish: 1-888-Ve-Y-Vota
    • Asian and Pacific Islander: 888-API-Vote
  • Call the US Department of Justice voting rights hotline:
    • 1-800-253-3931

Avoid confronting trouble-makers directly.

Fights or police presence can also intimidate voters.
